Bill D. Spindler, 85, of Huey, passed away May 21, 2017 at St. Joseph Hospital in Breese. He was born the son of George S. and Cora W. Hammel on February 26, 1932 in St. Louis, Missouri. He married Dorothy J. Cole on May 31, 1954 in Carlyle, IL. She survives in Huey.

In addition to being survived by his devoted wife, Dorothy, of 62 years, survivors include his loving children Donna Spindler of Huey, Darla Spindler of Huey, and Billie and Tim Conrad of Salem; cherished granddaughter Jessica Lynn Conrad of Salem; beloved siblings Joyce Kleber of Carlyle and Charles Spindler, wife Eunice of Hoffman, IL; sisters-in-law Julia Pruitt of Florida and Ruth Ford of Belleville.

Bill lived in the Huey area all of his life. He served in the United States Army from 1952-1954, during the Korean Conflict. He was a life member of the Beckemeyer American Legion Post 1227 having formerly served as commander in 2001; and life member of the V.F.W. of Carlyle Post 3523. For over 50 years, Bill was an auditor for Clement Township and a member of the AFSCME of the State of Illinois. He was also a 52 year member of the Huey-Ferrin-Boulder Fire Department. Bill was also an active member of the Immanuel United Church having served many years on the Church Council committee. Bill started his career employed with the I.C. Railroad. He later worked for Heinzmann Truck Company for 10 years, and ended his working career for 20 years with the Centralia Department of Corrections.

Celebration of life services will be 10:00 a.m. May 24, 2017 at Day Macz Funeral Home in Sandoval with Pastor Ken Schafer officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park with military graveside rites by the Beckemeyer American Legion Post 1227 and the V.F.W. of Carlyle Post 3523. Friends and relatives are invited to attend visiting hours for Bill from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at Day Macz Funeral Home in Sandoval and one hour prior to the services on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Huey-Ferrin-Boulder Fire Department, Beckemeyer American Legion Post 1227, or the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Carlyle.
