Dana Nelson, 68, of Centralia, IL passed away Sunday, February 4, 2018 at Bryan Manor in Centralia, IL. He was born on June 5, 1949 the son of Clifford and Georgia (Townsend) Nelson in Granite City, IL.

Dana was really a stand up kind of guy. He was always polite and cordial to everyone. Everybody liked him, it was impossible to NOT like Dana. He had a good sense of humor and liked to joke around. He was of the Protestant faith, and was a member of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Centralia for years. He was really well-liked by the church members as well.

He liked to watch television, particularly professional wrestling, John Cena was his favorite. He also enjoyed playing sports, especially basketball, playing his guitar, listening to and dancing to music, attending parties, exercising to videos and on the stationary bike, going to the park, attending church, and playing Bingo. Dana liked any opportunity to go out in the community and eat at a restaurant, shop, or go to the recreation center. He enjoyed celebrating his birthday and the major holidays and going to seasonal activities/events. Dana participated in the Special Olympics when he had the opportunity. He was also an active member of Resident Council meetings. Dana truly seemed to enjoy life and derived a lot of joy from participating in almost any activity offered to him.

Celebration of life services will be at 12:00 p.m. Friday February 9, 2018 at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia, IL with Pastor Jeremy Martin officiating. Interment will be in the Sandoval Cemetery in Sandoval, IL. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home in Centralia.
