Maxine Gladys (Kent) Hoxworth, 92, of Centralia, passed away, Friday, October 12, 2018 at Odin Health Care Center. She was born on May 14, 1926 the daughter of Lester and Alvina (Luckert) Kent in Gridley, IL. She married William Hoxworth on April 30, 1948 at the “Little Brown Church in the Vale” in Vale, IA and he preceded her in death on January 2, 2007.

Maxine was devoted to her surviving family, children, Stephen Kent Hoxworth of Chicago, IL, Meg Hoxworth-Coberly of Farina, IL, Richard Alan Hoxworth and wife Karin of Centralia, IL, and Scott William Hoxworth of New Iberia, LA; daughter-in-law, Patricia Hoxworth of Manteno; 9 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Along with her husband of 59 years, Mrs. Hoxworth was preceded in death by both her parents; sisters, Thelma Brubaker, Betty Jean McCanless and Hazel Todd; brother, Laverne Kent; and son-in-law, Harry Coberly.

Mrs. Hoxworth was a faithful member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Centralia, CWF of First Christian Church, and Mennonite Alumni Association. She truly cared about the youth of her community, serving as a Girl Scout Leader for 13 years. Maxine retired from Sunny Dale Acres Nursing Home and had been a dedicated, practicing registered nurse for 55 years.


A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, October 15, 2018 at the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Centralia with Reverend Paula Comper officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Centralia. Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Monday at the church. Memorials may be made in Maxine’s honor to First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Centralia or Camp Walter Scott Learning Center.
