Roger Dale Lay, 75, of Centralia, passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at SSM St. Mary’s Health in Centralia. He was born on September 14, 1943 the son of Ed and Bonnie Lay in Harrison, Arkansas. He married the love of his life JoAnn Tyson on June 19, 1982 in Metropolis, IL and they celebrated 36 years of marriage together.
Roger is survived in life by his beloved wife, JoAnn Lay; devoted children, Joe Lay, and wife Sherri of Centralia, Kim Williams, and husband Craig of Heyworth, IL, Genaea Madison of Centralia, Mark Hamilton Jr, and wife Angie of Centralia; precious grandchildren, Amie, Amber, Jarred, Jake, Cameron, Conner, Sherman Jr., Jakarie, Sharrod, Quinton, Teona, Justice, Maliyah, Natalia, Xavier, Brooklyn, Aaliyah, Michael Jr, Brooke, Tarik, Kristine, Brandon, Aemilia; cherished great- grandchildren, Drake, Jaelinn, Madison, and Kinsley, Brynley, Rayden, and Reece; caring, sister-in-law, Bobbie Lay; host of many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Roger was preceded in death by both his parents, Ed and Bonnie Lay; sisters, Frankie and Tammy Lay; brother, Gerald Lay.

Mr. Lay was a faithful member of the New Bethel Baptist Church in Centralia where he passionately shared his love of Jesus. At the church he continued his servant heart by leading as a Deacon, an Usher, and as President of the Trustee Board. Roger knew the value of hard work and was a loyal employee for Beckmann Trucking as a driver, Valley Steel as a lineman, and Burlington Railroad as a machine operator. He had a competitive nature and excelled at games such as, Yahtzee, spades, dominos, and washers. Roger will be remembered by all he knew as a loyal Miami Dolphins fan, and he also cheered on the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bulls truly loving their wins. He had a caring heart and will be remembered as a man that would take the time to help others. Above all his family was his most cherished treasure. Roger loved his wife, JoAnn dearly and was a devoted husband, always by her side as her caregiver for the past nine years. He was a generous father never telling his kids no and enjoyed spoiling his children and grandchildren.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, November 10, 2018 at New Bethel Baptist Church in Centralia with Reverend Ronald Johnson officiating. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 11:00 A.M. till time of service at the Church Saturday, November 10, 2018. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Bethel Baptist in Roger’s honor.
