Virginia Lee Norris, 78, of Vernon passed away Saturday, December 1, 2018 at her sister’s home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 14, 1940 the daughter of John Wesley and Theda Maxine (Powless) Cummins in Marion County. She married the love of her life Robert E. Norris on October 17, 1963 in Salem, Il. He preceded her in death on February 19, 2012.

Survivors include her beloved sons, Mike Norris of Vernon, Shawn Norris and special friend Jackie Richards of Vernon; special son, Jeff Knott; devoted stepfather, Wolfgang Ziesch of Dixon; cherished grandchildren, James Norris, Cody Norris, Scott Rhynes, Melvin D. Hill Jr., Lacy Taylor and husband Justin; precious great-grandchildren, Lucas Norris, Mason Norris, Peyton Norris, Trey Brown, Tristan Rhynes, Brittany Morgan, Carissa Morgan, Macy Taylor, Justin Paul Taylor Jr.; loving siblings, John Robert Cummins and wife Violet of Shattuc, Mick Cummins and wife Patty of Sandoval, Darlene Goodin of Sandoval, Shirley Jean Miller of Sandoval, Tonja Davis and husband Terry of Sterling, IL, Richie Cummins and wife Christy of Sandoval; and many nieces and nephews.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Norris; her father, John and stepmother Mattie Cummins; mother, Theda Ziesch; stepfather, Bill Miller; brother, Wesley Cummins; sister, Jolene Flanagan; and daughter-in-law, Toni Norris.

Virginia was known best for being a great mother to her sons, and a loving grandmother to her grandchildren. She was famous for cooking biscuits and gravy, pies, fried chicken and her mouthwatering liver and onions. She could be found playing Bingo or rooting on her St. Louis Cardinals. She enjoyed camping, fishing, dancing, and most of all socializing with her friends and family. She never met a stranger. She loved country music and being with her dog, Buster.


A celebration of life service will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, December 10, 2018 at the Day Macz Funeral Home in Sandoval with Chaplain Joannie Naraghi officiating. A visitation time will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service on Monday, December 10, 2018 at the funeral home in Sandoval. Memorials may be made in Virginia’s honor to the Family’s wishes.
