Ora Lee Brown, 89, of Centralia passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at Fireside House of Centralia. She was born on January 30, 1929 the daughter of Mingo and Lela (James) Wanzo in Centralia, IL. She married the love of her life, Theopolis “T.O.” Brown on September 21, 1947 in Centralia and he preceded her in death on May 4, 1986.

Ora was devoted to her loving family, son, Keith Brown and Karen Whisler of Centralia; grandsons, Kenyatta Harris of Centralia, Daniel Enquirez and wife Mandy of St. Louis, and Wes Lyons of Odin; great-granddaughter, Karolina Harris; great-grandson, Anthony Ortega; brothers, Harvey Welch and wife Trish of Carbondale, Robert Welch and wife Barb of Flint, MI; son-in-law, Ollie Johnson, and wife Jean of Detroit, MI; sister-in-law, Anita Lewis of Las Vegas, NV; brother-in-law, Melvin Brown of Calumet City, IL; and a host of nieces, nephews in the Brown, Jackson, Wanzo, Welch, and the Westbrook families.

Along with her husband of 40 years, Theopolis Brown, Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by both of her parents, Mingo and Lela Wanzo; daughter, Denise Johnson; siblings, Otto Wanzo, Ottomore Wanzo, Ottis Dexter, Harold Welch, and Vera Mae Bryant.

Mrs. Brown was a dedicated Christian woman and joined the church at a young age. She was devoted to The Second Baptist Church in Centralia and was active in The Child Welfare Club, Women’s League, and on the Mothers Board. Mrs. Brown was a Sunday School teacher and was a member of the Usher Board at the church. She was also a member of the Socialette’s in Centralia where she shared many wonderful friendships. Ora was the host that brought her family together often times around the dinner table.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Second Baptist Church in Centralia with Rev. Isaac Parker officiating. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Centralia, IL. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from noon to 1:00 P.M., Saturday, December 29, 2018. Memorials may be made in Ora’s honor to the Second Missionary Baptist Church and Senior Nutrition Program.
