Hershel D. “David” Bryant, 72, of Centralia passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at Nature Trail Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon. He was born on October 12, 1946 the son of Hershel and Florence (Hart) Bryant in Centralia. He married the love of his life, Brenda McNelly on May 29, 1966 at the Methodist Church in Centralia.

Survivors include his devoted wife Brenda Bryant of Centralia; loving children, Michael Bryant of Centralia, and Michelle Elliston and husband Pip of Paducah, KY; 7 cherished grandchildren; the sunshine of David’s life 1 great-grandchild; 1 sister, Kathy; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Mr. Bryant was preceded in death by both his parents, Hershel and Florence Bryant; and daughter, Christine Bryant.

Mr. Bryant proudly served his country in the United States Airforce during Vietnam. Upon returning home David and his wife, lovingly raised their family in Centralia. He was a man with a strong work ethic. He was a loyal employee of IDOT in Collinsville for 13 years, St. Mary’s Print Shop for 8 years, and retired from Illinois Central Railroad after 21 years of service. David was a member of the American Legion Post 446 in Centralia. His family will remember David’s many fun hobbies, including fishing, archery, motorcycle riding, listening to great music, and reading science fiction. David was most proud to be called PaPa and treasured every moment spent making memories with his grandchildren and great-grandchild.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, January 4, 2019 at Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia with Chaplain Joannie Naraghi officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park with Military rites being accorded by the American Legion Post 446 and V.F.W. Post 2055. Friends and family are invited to a visitation time from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home in Centralia. Memorials may be made in David’s honor to the Family’s Wishes to further his grandchildren’s education.
