E. Runell Steele, 84 of Carlyle, formerly of Sandoval, passed away Sunday, February 10, 2019 at HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese. She was born on May 15, 1934 the daughter of Rooney and Beulah (Cress) Barker in Boaz, KY. She married Arthur W. Steele on July 28, 1952 in St. Louis, MO.
Mrs. Steele was devoted to her loving family, 6 children, Mike &Terry Steele of Broken Arrow, OK, Debbie & Pat Maloy of Salem, Tom & Cindy Steele of Red Bud, Carol & Norman Conrad of Carlyle, Connie & Wiley Snyder of Sandoval, and Nick Steele of Carlyle; grandchildren, Brad & Mary Steele, Amy & Scott Cole, Jim & Julie Maloy, Cathy Maloy, Amanda & Travis Helmkamp, Rachel Steele Peebles & Derek Peebles, Trisha & Aaron Wright, Christopher & Amy Conrad, Wendy Snyder, Judd Snyder, Lexi Steele, & Kendra Steele; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Dr. Tom Barker of Highland; brother-in –law and sisters-in-law, Carl and Lula Steele of Rockford IL, Barbara Steele of Odin, & Charles & Cynthia Farmer of Fisher IN; several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Steele was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Steele; sister, Louise Knolhoff; brothers-in-law, Homer Steele, and Virgil Steele; sister-in-law Anita Barker; and great-grandson, Cody Snyder.
Mrs. Steele was a lifelong member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Sandoval, White Shrine, Centralia Cultural Society, and the Calumet Christian Church in Centralia. She was a volunteer for Red Cross blood drives, was a den mother for Cub Scouts and Worked as a beautician in the Sandoval area, and for the Sandoval Flower Shop and Village Greenery in Centralia. Runell also enjoyed Bowling and playing softball.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, February 16, 2019 at the Day Macz Funeral Home in Sandoval with Pastor John Willis officiating. A memorial visitation will be held from 5 to 7:00 P.M. Friday, February 15, 2019 at the Day Macz funeral home in Sandoval. The Salem Order of the Eastern Star #202 will have a memorial service at 7pm on Friday at the Day Macz funeral home in Sandoval. Memorials may be made in Mrs. Steele’s honor to American Heart Association or the Sandoval Order of the Eastern Star.
