Ruth E. Venezia, 98, of Centralia passed away Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Centralia Manor nursing home in Centralia. She was born on August 24, 1920 the daughter of Lester and Eliza (Laxton) Byrd in Scottville, IL. She married Venzie Venezia on June 10, 1944 in Centralia and he preceded her in death on October 28, 1990.

Survivors include her devoted children, son, Phillip Venezia, (Sandra) of Centralia, twin daughters, Lois Gaston, (William “Tim”) of Greenville, SC, and Lora Frazier, (John “Randy”) of Wolfeboro, NH, twins, Mary Huggins, (Tom) of Arvada, CO, and Larry Venezia, (Lurinda) of Bloomington, and daughter, Dena Carvell of McMinnville, TN; cherished grandchildren, Jill Wait, Derek Huggins, Stacey McCuddy, Lisa Myers, Brian Carvell, Melissa Bryant, Aaron True, and Brian True; 12 precious great-grandchildren; loving siblings, Lester Byrd Jr., (Permelia) of Centralia, Sarah Baun of Nashville, TN, Mildred Hutchinson of Pamplico, SC; and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Byrd of Granite City, IL, and Thelma Venezia of Springfield, MO.

Along with her husband of 46 years, Venzie Venezia, Ruth was preceded in death by both her parents; brothers, Melvin Byrd, and Loren Byrd; son-in-law, Patrick Carvell; sisters-in-law, Dottie Byrd, and Vera Byrd; brothers-in-law, Ronald Denton, David Hutchinson, and Glenn Baun.

Mrs. Venezia was a faithful member of Faith United Methodist Church for 70 years plus. She was able to share her love of Jesus by teaching Sunday School for 30 years. Ruth also served her church by holding the position of literature secretary for more than 50 years. She was a proud member of United Methodist Women.

Visitation will be held from 10-11 am Thursday, March 7th at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia. Funeral Services will be held at 11 am at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Centralia. Memorial contributions may be made in Ruth's honor to Cunningham Children's Home (United Methodist Women).
