Dorothy “Dort” Marie Belcher, 81, of Centralia, formerly of Patoka passed away Friday, March 15, 2019 at Odin Health Care Center. She was born the daughter of William and Bernice (Williams) Harmon on September 4, 1937. She married Vinnis “Sam” Dean Belcher and he preceded her in death in July of 2000.

Survivors include her sisters Mae Deadmond, Shirley Ingles, husband Burl, Wanda Roper, husband George, Donna Hixenbaugh, and Joyce Gelsinger; brothers Jim Harmon, wife Sue, Roy Harmon, and Donald Harmon, wife Marlene; grandchildren Diana Bivins, Mark Brumfield and Amanda Plummer, Matthew Brumfield and Jennifer Yates; seven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband Sam, she was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Debbie Parrish, sisters Mary Braskett, Norma Sessions, and Wilma Garner; brothers John Harmon, Everett Harmon, and Joe Harmon.

Mrs. Belcher was a kind lady of the Baptist faith. She was an amazing cook, making room at her table for all. Dorothy was definitely famous for her delicious fried chicken, that everyone would request she make. She had a true green thumb, growing abundant vegetable gardens and canning the fresh flavors to be enjoyed by her friends and family. Dorothy loved her time spent with her family and could be found laughing with her sisters, playing cards and dancing. She will be remembered as a loving sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, and friend.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at the Day Macz Funeral Home in Patoka with Pastor David Rogers officiating. Interment will be at Pratt Cemetery. A visitation time will be from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the funeral home in Patoka. Memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy’s honor to Day Macz Funeral Home to aid the family with funeral expenses.
