Tena Ann (Lyons) Tomes, 58, of Sandoval passed away Monday, June 17, 2019 at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia with her devoted family by her side. She was born on September 2, 1960 the daughter of William H. “Bill”, Sr. and Doris (Watts) Lyons in Centralia, IL. She married Kenneth Lee Tomes Jr. and 5 children were born of this union, they later divorced.

Survivors that will remember Tena’s glowing smile include, her loving daughters, Lashana Lyons of Sandoval, Molly Brown and husband Chris of Centralia, Wendy Tomes and partner Brandon Hurst of Sandoval, Shirlene “Candy” Tomes of Sandoval, Rebecca Tomes and partner Janet Prchal of Sandoval; 19 cherished grandchildren; and expecting 1 precious great-grandchild, Baby Harding in September; caring brothers, William H. “Billy” Lyons Jr. of Odin, Joseph Lyons and wife Angie of Sandoval, and Matthew Lyons of Sandoval; special sissy, Sally Lyons of Sandoval; 10 dear nieces and nephews; 7 great-nieces and great-nephews and a treasured friend to all that knew her.

Tena was preceded in death by both her parents, William H. “Bill”, Sr. and Doris Lyons; and great-nephew Chaise Robert Harris.

Tena was a peacemaker and made it her mission to make every person she came into contact with feel like they were the most important person in the world. Happy customers would come into the restaurants that she waitressed at with great hope of having her care for their meal, as they were treated like kings. Tena could be found filling up drinks before they were empty and making people smile at the Family Table, Pantry, Bakers Dozen, and Lyon’s Den. She was an amazing cook, sharing her treats of mouthwatering, homemade pies, cookies, and dumplings with grateful family and friends. Tena could always be found enjoying a good cup of coffee before heading outdoors to fish and mushroom hunt. Her generous heart was displayed in the gifts she liked to shower her family with, the most treasured gift being the gift of her time and the fierce love she left behind. To say Tena held a strong bond with her family would be putting it lightly. She held a special relationship with each of her siblings, making sure to stay close to each one. Tena was a protective and supportive Momma, Grandma Tena, and Aunt TT. She cherished time spent with her grandchildren and was an excellent mentor to them. Tena was a talented artist, drawing, making arts and crafts, and crocheting baby hats, making sure to share these talents with her grandchildren. Her legacy of generosity, love and kindness will continue on in all the lives that she touched.

A celebration of life service will be held at 12:00 P.M. Friday, June 21, 2019 at the Day Macz Funeral Home in Sandoval with Brother Claude Howell officiating. Friends and family are invited to visiting hours from 10:00 A.M. till time of service on Friday, June 21, 2019. Interment will be held privately at Deadmond Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made in Tena’s honor to help her daughters with funeral expenses to Day Macz Funeral Homes.
