Gary Brumfield, 73, of Vandalia, formerly of Vernon passed away Sunday, December 15, 2019 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. He was born on December 20, 1945 the son of Raymond and Eva “Lucille” (Knutt) Brumfield in Centralia. He married Sandy Ehrat in Vernon on April 6, 1968 and she survives in Vandalia.

Along with his beloved wife, Sandy, survivors include his caring nieces and nephews, Kenny Brumfield of Bonnie, Pam Crawford and husband Ron of Vernon, Angie Gathe of Vernon, Kindra Ehrat of Aurora, IN and Bryant Ehrat of Cincinnati, OH; kind brother-in-law, Bob Thalman; thoughtful sister-in-law, Carol Brumfield; and several more nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Mr. Brumfield was preceded in death by both his parents, Raymond and Lucille (Knutt) Brumfield; sister, Virginia Thalman; brothers, Bill Brumfield, and Burl Brumfield.

Mr. Brumfield was a proud United States Army veteran. He worked for Marathon Oil Company before his retirement. Gary could be found on the tractor plowing the field or working in his barn. He was super proud of his yard and made sure to keep it looking pristine. Gary enjoyed time watching the dogs work while bird hunting. He had a passion for raising horses and competed and won many horse pulls in our area. He will be remembered for his story telling and his favorite line, “Let me tell you what”. Gary’s heart belonged to his wife Sandy and he showered her with love and attention.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 21, 2019 at Vernon Cemetery with Pastor David Rogers officiating. Memorials may be made in Gary’s honor to Vernon Cemetery or The American Heart Association.
