Everett L. Burks, 84, of Patoka passed away, surrounded by the peace and love of his supportive family, Monday, December 23, 2019 at his home in Patoka. He was born on October 20, 1935 the son of Ben and Goldie (Hoobery) Burks in Mt. View, MO. He first married Donna Sauberger and they later divorced. On April 5, 1972 he married Sue (Walker) Richards and she survives him in Patoka.

Everett was devoted to each member of his family, survivors, along with his beloved wife, Sue Burks include, treasured daughters, Janice Belcher and husband Al, Carol Cain and husband Mike, Susan Spencer and husband Ed all of Patoka, Rise Sahr and husband Mike of Vandalia; caring son, Rick Burks of Patoka; step-son Bruce Richards and wife Cheryl of Carlinville; kind sisters, Vera Ray and husband Dave of Vandalia, Wanda Spicer of Patoka, and Wilma McElroy and husband Jim of Texas; loved brothers, Orville Burks and wife Judy of Shobonier, and Chet Burks of Vernon; and many cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Mr. Burks was preceded in death by both his parents; two infant brothers; sisters, Vivian Burks, and Donna Evans; brothers-in-law, Richard Evans, and Earl Spicer; and sister-in-law, Deloris Burks.

Everett grew up in Missouri and came to Illinois in 1953. He served, proudly for 4 years in the United Stated Army stationed mainly in Germany. Everett became a Mason on February 19, 1980 and a Shriner in May of 1980. Never one to shy away from hard work, he was a semi-driver, logger, and sawmill owner and operator. He loved his family and friends, enjoying time cooking out to feed appreciative family and friends, fishing, and spending time with his furry loves, his dogs and cats. Everett was a man that had a deep appreciation for classic cars, admiring the details on his 1956 Ford Crown Victoria. He showed off great skill at the bowling alley while on league. He loved rocking out and singing along to the oldies. The joy Everett brought to his family and friends was and will always be apparent on their faces as they share stories, and good times of a life well lived. His heart for helping people in need, and showering his family and friends with love will not be forgotten.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 28, 2019 at Day Macz Funeral Home in Patoka with Pastor David Rogers officiating. Interment will follow at Vernon Cemetery in Vernon. Friends and relatives are welcome to a visitation time from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday at the funeral home in Patoka. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Everett’s honor to Vernon Cemetery and will be accepted at the funeral home.
