Larry James, 77, of Centralia passed away, with his family by his side, Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. He was born on December 2, 1942 the son of Austin and Jean (Smith) James in Sandusky, OH. He married Barbara Fish and two children were born of this union. He later married the love of his life, Carole “Lynn” Wright on November 29, 1996 at the First United Methodist Church in Centralia.

Larry was a protective and devoted family man to each member of his family. Survivors include his beloved wife, Lynn James of Centralia; treasured children, Karen Brothers and husband Jeff of Centralia, Matthew James and wife Nicole of NJ, and Tracy Doubet and husband Cale of Savoy, IL; precious grandchildren, Cassidy James, Lochlain James, Jake Brothers, Jared Brothers, Katie Doubet, and Jack Doubet; cherished great-grandson, Brantley; caring twin brothers, Gary James and wife Vicki of TX, and Terry James and wife Becky of OK; and a host of special nieces and nephews.

Mr. James was preceded in death by both his parents, Austin and Jean James.

Mr. James was a faithful and dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church where he held many treasured memories, one being his wedding day to his sweetheart, Lynn. He felt that education was essential and received his Master’s degree from the University of Indiana. After graduation, Mr. James was an energetic and passionate teacher for Centralia High School known for playing music during class. He also coached many teams on to victory in baseball, wrestling, and football for Centralia High School. Larry retired from the high school after 32 loyal years. He continued his passion for education and the Centralia High School District by being a current member of the School Board since April 2003. His love of sports truly shone in the way he loved to cheer on his children’s and grandchildren’s teams. He had a true love for golfing and was responsible for organizing golf league and golf outings at Greenview Golf Course in Centralia. Larry will be remembered as an animal lover and master fisherman. He loved to hear his grandchildren call out Grandpa Larry and would always take the time to sit and learn all about their lives. Larry was passionate, hardworking, generous, active and fun and these qualities will continue on in all those he knew and loved.

A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, January 30, 2020 at Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia with Pastor Sidney Davis officiating, and his brother, Terry James will be delivering the eulogy. Friends and relatives are welcome to a visitation time with the family from 4:00 P.M. until the time of the service at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Larry’s honor to the family to help aid the Centralia High School Science Department, as well as the Boosters Club for new tennis courts, and/or the First United Methodist Church in Centralia.
