Joseph “Joe” Whipple, 63, of Mt. Vernon passed away Saturday, February 8, 2020 at his home. He was born on January 16, 1957 the son of Vallie Sr. and Vera (Madison) Whipple in West Memphis, Arkansas. He married Kathlene Whipple on October 8, 1986 in Arkansas and she survives in Mt.Vernon.

Along with his wife Kathleen, Joe is survived by his devoted children, Stephanie Ellis, Rita Collins and husband Bill, Orval Whipple and wife Brittany, Edna Eddington and husband Dylan, and Jennifer Watson and husband JC; 13 cherished grandchildren; 6 precious great-grandchildren; kind siblings, Ernie Whipple of Salem, Perry Whipple of Brazoria, TX, Norman Whipple of Jacksonville, Arkansas, Charlotte Whipple and husband Michael of Salem, Norie Whipple and husband Edward of Brazoria, TX, and Velvet Whipple and husband Jimmy of Brazoria, TX; and 21 special nieces and nephews.

Joe was preceded in death by both his parents; and siblings, Vallie Jr., Carl, Bruce, Francis, Albert, Alvin, Sally, Cleta, Molly Ann, and Cappy; and son, Joseph “Joey” Whipple Jr.

Joe was a motivated, self-employed sanitation worker. He was one of the St. Louis Cardinals biggest and most loyal fans. Joe never missed a game and the chance to cheer for his favorite Cardinal players. He was skilled at playing horseshoes and loved to hear the sound of the horseshoe on the stake when he would make a “ringer”. Joe’s memory will bring a smile and comfort to those he knew and loved.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, February 14, 2020 at Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia with Pastor Ben Wyant officiating. Interment will be followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park in rural Sandoval. A visitation time will be held from 12:00 P.M. until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home in Centralia. Memorials may be made in Joe’s honor to Irvin Macz Funeral Home and will be accepted at the funeral home.
