John Raymond Dodson, Jr., 93, of Centralia passed away Friday, April 10, 2020 at Fireside House of Centralia. He was born on June 13, 1926 the son of John, Sr. and Lydia (Copeland) Dodson in Raccoon Township. He married Suzie Miller on March 17, 1947 in Mayfield, KY and she survives in Centralia.

Along with his beloved wife of 73 years, Suzie Dodson, survivors include his devoted sons, Mike Dodson and wife Linda of Walnut Hill, IL, and Jerry Dodson of Rushville, IL; treasured grandchildren, Mike Dodson and wife Brenda of Iuka, IL, Valerie Atchison of Centralia, IL, Jared Dodson and wife Kris of Williston, FL, Casey Dodson and wife Katrena of Centralia, IL, Douglas Dodson of Centralia, IL, and Ginger Bahr of St. Louis, MO; 14 precious great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild on the way.

Mr. Dodson was preceded in death by both his parents; sister, Lilly Rosemary Dodson; daughter, Glenna Atchison; sons, Doug Dodson, Terry Dodson, and Roger Dodson.

Mr. Dodson served his country with pride in the United States Army during World War II in both Germany and France. He was a dedicated farmer and enjoyed planting and harvest seasons. Raymond shared his bountiful harvest, from his garden, at Farmer’s Markets in Centralia and Nashville much to the delight of his customers. He had amazing business sense and owned and operated Trash and Treasure in Centralia. Raymond knew the value of a good day of fishing and liked to share his catch of the day with family and friends. Raymond was well respected, honest, hardworking, and deeply loved by his family.

Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia is honored to be assisting the family of Raymond Dodson with arrangements. A graveside service with private burial will be held at Little Grove Christian Church Cemetery in Dix.
