Vernon B. Jones of Centralia passed away at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, MO on Monday, May 4, 2020, in the presence of his wife and daughters.

Mr. Jones was born August 22, 1959 in Tunica, MS, son of Albert Boyd and Annie Ruth Jones. On January 1, 1987 He married the love of his life, Lisa Bates and she survives in Centralia, IL.

Vernon’s family moved to Mt. Vernon, IL early in his life and he received his education through the Mt. Vernon school system; it was also during this period that Vernon accepted Christ as his personal Savior.

In addition to his wife he is survived by six children, Vernon Rollins (Jaimi Durham) of Mt. Vernon, IL; Patrice Bryant-Turner (Tyrez) of Birmingham, AL, Vernitra Rollins of Mt. Vernon, IL, Veya Jones (Dennis Parks), Dae’sha Jones, and Carleka Spann (David) all of Centralia, IL; eleven grandchildren, Mack, Amier, Qadeem, Saryah, Vernayzia, Blu’, Adreah, D’Ani, Kaleah, Tyrez II, , and Carson; He is also survived by two sisters, Ernestine Smith (Willie) of Memphis, TN, and Edna Thrailkill (Anthony) of Mt. Vernon, IL; and his father-in-law, Flozell Bates (Glenda) of Centralia, IL, of whom he looked up to as a Dad; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by both parents; mother-in-law, Helena (Taylor) Bates; son, Vernon Jones Jr; a granddaughter, Loxianna Moore; a grandson, Christoff Spann; and two brothers, Herbert Darling, and Albert “Russ” Jones.

Mr. Jones was self-employed as a Barber for several decades as well as being employed at Monsanto, Swan, and Universal Packaging. Vernon loved spending time with his family and friends and especially his grandchildren, of whom he had nicknames for most of them. He had a true passion for barbering, cooking, and music. He was a people person by nature, never met a stranger and would give you the shirt off his back.

Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia is privileged to be assisting the family of Vernon Jones with arrangements. A celebration of life service will be held privately, any that attend are asked to please wear their mask. Friends and family are encouraged to come to the Irvin Macz Funeral Home between the times of 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 11, 2020 to pay your respects to Vernon Jones via a drive-thru glimpse till glory viewing, enter on the South side of the building from 3rd Street, under our covered drive.
