Kenneth Taylor Meador, 93, passed away peacefully at 7:35 a.m. at his residence in Mt. Vernon, Illinois on Friday, June 12, 2020. He was born in Vernon, Illinois on November 20, 1926 to Claude and Tillie (Beccue) Meador. Kenneth was first married to Marie Sessions. They divorced. He later married Marie Hawkins and they also divorced.

Kenneth is survived by daughter, Diana Thomas and husband Dwight of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; and son, Troy Meador and wife Carolyn of Mt. Carmel, Illinois; four grandchildren, Jennifer Thomas Scanio and husband Anthony of New Orleans, Louisiana, Ryan Thomas and wife Anel of Aldie , Virginia, Tyson Meador and wife Morgan of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, and Sarah Porter and husband Jon of Mt. Carmel, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Rocco, Luca and Raffaella Scanio, John Thomas, Shain, Lola and Zed Meador, Brady Porter; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by brothers, Thurby Meador, and Amos Meador; and sisters, Annabelle Doolen, Loretta O’Riley, Reba Jordan, and Berniece Ross.

Kenneth farmed his whole life until retirement. He was a 50 year member of Patoka Lodge 613 and past master. He was President, Secretary, and Treasurer of the Centralia Shrine Club. He belonged to Scottish Rite Bodies of Southern Illinois and the Ainad Temple of East St. Louis. He was Shriner of the year in 1997 and an Ambassador of Ainad Temple. He loved to collect money for the Shriners which helped children get the help they so desperately needed. In 2001, he was in the street collecting money for the Shiners and was hit by a car suffering a broken pelvis in 6 places, but that didn’t keep him down too long. In 3 months he was up and going again. He was also a member of the Patoka School Board for 20 years and a member of Calumet Christian Church in Centralia.

Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia is privileged to be assisting the family of Kenneth Meador with arrangements. A private funeral service will be held with John Willis officiating. Friends and family are welcome to a visitation time from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia where everyone is encouraged to wear a mask and will be limiting the amount of people into the funeral home. Interment will be at Vernon Cemetery where social distancing is requested. Memorials may be made in Kenneth’s honor to Shriners Hospital for Children and will be accepted at the funeral home’s office at 234 S. Elm St. Centralia, Il 62801.
