Mildred Mary Nalewajka “Millie K” Korzenewski, 96, of Bartelso, formerly of Junction City, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at Centralia Manor. She was born on January 14, 1924 the daughter of Anton & Cornelia (nee Wanningman) Brueggeman in Sterling, CO. She married Erwin Nalewajka on September 18, 1945 in Sandoval and he preceded her in death on April 10, 1986. She married John Korzenewski on November of 1988 and he preceded her in death in April 1992.

Survivors that cherish Millie K’s memory and dedication to her family include her beloved children, son, Eugene Nalewajka and wife Nancy of Junction City, and daughter, Helen Duncan of Centralia; treasured grandchildren, Tony Nalewajka and wife Lana of Odin, Stacey Ford and husband Shaun of Junction City, and Ashley John Nalewajka of Sandoval; and special great-granddaughters, Kalyn Nalewajka, Kylie Nalewajka, Sierra Lynne Ford; sister-in-law, Jeanne Nalewajka; many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Along with her husbands, Mildred was preceded in death by both her parents, Anton and Cornelia Brueggeman; son-in-law Mack Duncan; great-granddaughter, Kristen Hope Nalewajka; several brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.

Millie K lived in Junction City for many years before moving to Lakeland, Florida for 6 years and then to Bartelso. She owned and operated, with her husband, the Nalewajka Grocery Store in Junction City for 40 years, retiring in 1986. Their grocery store was quite famous in the area and countless residents hold fond memories of buying penny candy and being greeted by Mildred and her husband, Erwin with kind smiles and expert service. She was later a sales clerk at Dobbs Bargain City in Centralia. She was a faithful member of the St. Cecelia Catholic Church, the Altar Sodality, and the Church Choir all at Bartelso. She was also a member of the Young Hearts Group of the Church, the C.W.V. of Bartelso, and a volunteer at Lakeland Regional Hospital Auxiliary for 6 years in Lakeland, Florida and in more recent years, at St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary in Breese, Illinois. Mildred enjoyed time with her family, sewing, and hard work.

Day Macz Funeral Home in Sandoval is privileged to be assisting the family of Mildred Korzenewski with arrangements. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, July 25, 2020 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Sandoval with Rev. Fr. Steven Pautler celebrating the mass. Interment will follow at St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery in Sandoval. A visitation time will be held from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Saturday, July 25, 2020 at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Sandoval where those in attendance will be required to wear a mask and the amount of people in the building will be limited to 50 at one time. Memorials may be made in Millie K’s honor to Sandoval Fire Department.
