Robert E. “Bob” Powell, 91, of Centralia passed away surrounded by the love of his family on Saturday, August 29, 2020. He was born on February 20, 1929 the son of George and Reba (Miller) Powell in Odin. He married his first love, Lola Sanders on January 27, 1967 in Centralia and she preceded him in death on April 5, 1996. He was blessed to find love again and married Aneta Martin on April 12, 1997 in Centralia and she survives him in Centralia.

Along with his devoted wife of 23 years, Aneta Powell, Bob is survived by his beloved children, daughter, Marcia Mccluskey, (Marty) of Centralia, step-daughters, Rachel Shumaker, (Glenn) of Indianapolis, IN, Misty Stamogiannos, (George) of Aurora, and Tyra Laffoon of Centralia. Bob was known as Grandpa to his 6 grandchildren, a title he treasured, surviving grandchildren include, Phillip Sloat of Franklin, IN, Dylan Sloat of Palm Springs, FL, Jonathan Stamogiannos of Aurora, Mia Stamogiannos of Aurora, Aaron Shigley of Centralia, and Elijah Shumaker of Indianapolis, IN.

Along with his first wife, Lola, Robert was preceded in death by both his parents, George and Reba Powell.

Robert was proud to serve his country in the United States Army. During his time of service, in the Korean conflict, Bob built bridges and once he returned to the states he continued to use the skills he learned in the Army by being a loyal employee of BN Railroad as a carpenter foreman, building bridges for them in Southern Illinois. He was a faithful member of Fouts Christian Church. Bob was diligent in his study of the bible and was a fierce prayer warrior, so grateful for the grace and mercy Jesus provides for all that accept His gift of salvation. He had a selfless heart and was an amazing caregiver to his first wife Lola. Bob had a true talent with his hands and enjoyed woodworking and gifting the beautiful pieces he created to his family. Bob was proud of his vegetable garden and loved to share the wealth of fresh tastes from his garden with friends and family. Bob’s legacy of hard work and dedication to his family will always be remembered.

Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Odin is privileged to be assisting the family of Robert Powell with arrangements. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at Peaceful Valley Cemetery in Odin with Pastor Karl Barnfield officiating. Military Funeral Honors will be performed at the graveside to honor Bob’s years of service.
