Stanley Marcum, 99, of Centralia passed away peacefully Monday, September 7, 2020 at his home in Centralia. He was born October 3, 1920 the son of John and Louisa (Beck) Marcum in Dix. He married Dorothy Coleman on June 30, 1949 in Centralia and she preceded him in death in 2012.

Survivors that will remember Stanley’s true moral character include his beloved children, Stephen Marcum and wife Marcela of Lake Forest, CA, Carole Marcum of Hobe Sound, FL, John Marcum of Phoenix, AZ, Beth Marcum of Hobe Sound, FL, and Phillip Marcum of Centralia; 9 cherished grandchildren; 16 precious great-grandchildren; 2 treasured great-great-grandchildren.

Along with his wife, Dorothy Marcum, Mr. Marcum was preceded in death by both his parents, John and Louisa Marcum; sisters, Vern Schultz, Elsie Foppe, and Wilma Wallace; brothers Franklin Marcum, Merle “Mike” Marcum, and Herbert Marcum, Tom Marcum, John “Joe” Marcum, and Donald Marcum; and sisters-in-law, Bernice Marcum, Mari Lee Marcum, Francois Marcum, and Karen Marcum.

Mr. Marcum was proud to serve his country during World War II in the Army Infantry. He was a lifelong member of the VFW Post 2055, where he held the post of Junior Vice Commander for 1 year and Sat At Arms for several years. He was also a member, and active in Centralia’s American Legion Post 446. With both memberships, Stanley assisted with giving military honors to other brothers in arms during their funeral services. Stanley was a loyal employee of the Illinois Central Railroad for 43 years, until his retirement in 1981, as a locomotive crane operator. He loved his family dearly and was passionate about providing for them. He encouraged them to go to college as he wanted the best life could bring for each one of them. As his family grew, he was involved with leading cub scouts and boy scouts, and coached little league, always being his children’s biggest fan. Mr. Marcum was a lifelong resident of, and proud to call Centralia his home. He would put out a huge vegetable garden to share and enjoy all the garden’s fresh flavors. He leaves behind a legacy of treating others with respect, working hard to provide for your family and never taking for granted the simple things in life.
