Mary Goodnight, 83, of Centralia, passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia. She was born on December 16, 1936 the daughter of Robbie and Tressa (Boatright) Howard in Wamac, IL. She married Bernard Goodnight Jr. in Centralia on June 16, 1956 and three children were born of this union. They later divorced.

Survivors that cherish Mary’s memory and dedication to her family include her beloved children, Gregory Allen Goodnight of Odin, Cynthia Lynn Goodnight of Centralia, Anthony Edward Goodnight and Wife Karen of East Granby, CT; precious grandchildren, Michelle, Jason, Andrew and wife Casandra, Jordan, Ryne; treasured great-grandchildren, Hunter, and Noah; devoted siblings, Carolyn Archer, David Howard; many special nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by both her parents, Robbie and Tressa Howard; siblings, Maxine Koch, Floyd Howard, Norma Holle, Robert Howard, Hilda Foehner, Ruth Cook; and infant brother Daryl Howard.

Mary was a faithful member of First Apostolic Church in Centralia where she shared her love for her Lord and Savior. She was a devoted military wife and raised her children across the United States and even in Europe. Along with raising her children she supported her family by working and retiring from Marion County Housing. Mary was a modest and humble woman, who enjoyed the simple things in life. She liked interior decorating and could be found listening to talk radio or to her favorite gospel songs.

A celebration of life service will be held at 12:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia with Pastor Jonathan Urshan officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in rural Sandoval. A visitation time will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service on Tuesday at the funeral home where those in attendance will be asked to wear a mask and the amount of people in the building at one time will be limited to 50. Irvin Macz Funeral Home is privileged to be assisting the family of Mary with arrangements. Memorials may be made in her honor to First Apostolic Church in Centralia.
