Mary Ann Norton, of Centralia passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Centralia Manor surrounded by the love of her granddaughter. She was born on August 26, 1934 the daughter of Charles and Susie (Ware) Hodges in Wamac. She married Gerald “Bill” Norton in 1951 in Centralia, and they had one daughter, Julie.

Survivors who will remember Mary Ann as a loving grandma include her precious grandchildren, Maya (Rob) Patterson of Chesterfield, MO, Devendra (Vera) Patel of Frankfurt, Germany, and Sanjeev (Megan) Patel of Appleton, WI; 7 cherished great-grandchildren, Serkan, Nila, Xenia, Kareena, Elia, Divya, and Naveen; son-in-law, Dr. Ashok Patel of Chesterfield, MO; and many special nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by both her parents, Charles and Susie Hodges; ex-husband, Bill Norton; sisters, Jessie (Floyd) Elliott, and Nancy (Larry) Greene; and her daughter, Julie Patel.

Mary Ann was a proud graduate of Centralia High School Class of 1950. She continued to call Centralia her home after graduation and became highly active in this community. She was a member of the Centralia Elks, and past president of the Centralia Business and Professional Women’s Club. Mary Ann was a faithful member of Faith United Methodist Church where she taught all ages in the Children’s Sunday School Department. She also served as Children Coordinator, and was Finance Chair of the Church Board. Mary Ann was a past Matron of Centralia Chapter, Order of Eastern Star; past Worthy High Priestess of Syrian Shrine, White Shrine Jerusalem; and past Mother Advisor and Grand Deputy of the Order of Rainbow for Girls. Along with her servant’s heart for volunteering and helping others, Mary Ann had a commendable career as secretary for the Chief of Police for Centralia. She held an intricate role as secretary, supporting the Chief as well as all the officers working to protect and serve for the Centralia Police Department. Mary Ann retired from her duties at the police department on January 28, 2000. She led a life of leadership, service, and compassion. These amazing qualities will not be forgotten and her values will live on in each of Mary Ann’s generations that follow.

Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia is privileged to be assisting the family of Mary Ann Norton with arrangements. A private graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park in rural Sandoval. A visitation time will be held from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia where those in attendance will be asked to wear a mask and the number of people in the funeral home will be limited.
