Bonnell Swagler, 99, of Shattuc, Il passed away at her home December 30, 2020. She was born on August 3, 1921 in Boulder, IL to Edward and Genevieve (Lanham) Gaddy. Bonnell married Edgar Swagler on August 22, 1942. They lived their entire life together at their home on the Swagler Farm. Edgar preceeded her in death on February 19, 2011.

Bonnie will be remembered for her red hair, classy style, love of animals and her green thumb. Bonnell raised numerous varieties of day lilies that adorn many gardens in the area, as she enjoyed sharing starts with others.

Bonell s survived by special niece, Rhoda Quarterman and husband Lee, nephew, Gaylon Howe II and wife Joan, and great-nephew, Rolf Hunt who spent many summers with her when he was young. Also surviving are the Swagler/Holland nephews and nieces. She is also survived by the many wonderful caregivers she had over the years especially Tina and Angie who were considered family.

Bonnell was preceded in death by her husband and parents; siblings Lucille and husband Gaylon Howe and Howard Gaddy; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lewis and Martha Swagler, Earl and Ruby Swagler, Alice Swagler, and Harvey and Mabel Holland and nephews, David Gaddy, Charles Holland, and Stephen Swagler.

Day Macz Funeral Home in Sandoval is privileged to be assisting the family of Bonnell Swagler with arrangements. A private graveside service will be held. Memorials may be made in Bonnell’s honor to the Shattuc United Methodist Church or the Centralia Humane Society.
