Constance Alene “Connie” Scarborough, 71, of Central City passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at Aperion Care in Fairfield. She was born on April 26, 1949 the daughter of Gerald Thomas “Tom” and Laura Alene (Baker) Brooks in Champaign. She married Donald Ray Padberg and they later divorced. She then married William Bennett “Ben” Scarborough on October 25, 1986 at their home in Central City and he preceded her in death on December 29, 2018.

Survivors include her siblings, brothers, Douglas Brooks of California, and Cory Brooks of Montana and a sister, Kayla Puzey and husband Joe of Fairmount, Illinois; stepsons, Allen “Butch” of Centralia, and Michael and Sherry of Edwardsville; grandchildren, Lori, Natalie, Chris and wife Andrea, Jon and wife Jill; 6 great-grandchildren; stepmother, Alice Brooks; 4 nieces and 4 nephews; and several great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Along with her husband of 32 years, Ben Scarborough, Connie was preceded in death by both her father, Gerald Brooks, and mother, Laura Brooks.

Connie attended Bismark, IL and Patoka, Il grade and high schools and Kaskaskia Junior College in Centralia, IL. Connie worked 2 years at Warren G. Murray Center, 10 years at St. Mary’s Hospital and 25 years for the State of Illinois Department of Human Services all in Centralia. Her strong work ethic did not stop in retirement as she was her husband Ben’s caretaker. Connie enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals win, and spending time with friends doing sewing projects. She also liked to cook but most of all bake and sharing Christmas treats with the people she loved. Connie was always extremely efficient and organized in all areas of her life. She was appreciated for the loving care she gave her family, and friends, making sure all their needs were met.

Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia is privileged to be assisting the family of Connie Scarborough with arrangements. A private graveside will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made in Connie’s honor to the Local Food Pantry or St. Judes Hospital and will be accepted for her family at the funeral home.
