Monthly Grief Counseling Meetings - Macz Funeral Homes hosts a monthly grief counseling support group meeting. Meetings occur the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois (234 S. Elm, Centralia, IL 62801). There is no cost involved. Meetings are facilitated by Brother Claude Howell. At this time, the support meetings are structured for adults. If you have any questions, please contact our Centralia office at 618-532-5511.
New Horizons Counseling Service - A local counseling office located in Salem, IL that offers counseling to help you through the grief process. Grief many times results in depression, anxiety, numbness, anger, confusion, tiredness, helplessness, feeling disconnected and a variety of other emotions. New Horizons offers counseling for individuals, couples, and families. Their compassionate licensed counselors are trained, experienced and equipped to assist you. Books in our Library - Macz Funeral Home views the importance of maintaining current and relevant resources for families through their time of grief. Five new titles were added to the funeral home’s library, each one covering various types of loss.
Holiday Blues by Dr. Clarence Tucker is a self-help manual on grief through not only the holidays but every day. The book equips the reader with many good ways to cope and heal after the loss of a loved one.
Ride to the Stars by Suzanne Gene Courtney is a children’s book about life, loss, and love. The author’s characters, a boy named Daniel and a green sea turtle named Honu, are beautifully rendered to encapsulate a sensitive subject. The result is a loving and gentle message that inspires young ones to honor and exemplify life and to know that life does indeed go on forever.
When a Friend Dies by Marilyn E. Gootman is a book that is helpful for teens experiencing the untimely death of a friend. The author has written a sensitive book that answers questions grieving teens have.

grief, death, and major loss. We have almost 60 e-mail support groups and two web sites.
The Grief Watch - This web site was created to provide you with bereavement resources and
links that can help you through your personal loss. It also serves as an excellent educational tool for all who travel down the road of grief.
The AARP - Provides information on how to handle the death of a loved one. As
well as dealing with personal grief, they cover many other topics such as legal issues.
Illinois Funeral Directors Association (IFDA)* - Provides
some grief support service and offers information on Illinois laws and regulations for funeral homes and cemeteries.
National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA)* - Provides advocacy,
education, information, products, programs and services to help members enhance the quality of service to families.
Order of the Golden Rule* - This professional organization brings support, resources and services to you and our funeral homes.
Veterans Administration - Provides information on memorial benefits,
health services, life insurance programs and more.
Social Security Administration - Allows survivors to report the death of the loved. The site
also provides information on potential benefits that can be claimed by the survivors.
